THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING.
I just reblogged this with the command, shit
douglas adams writing about technology in 1999.
I suppose earlier generations had to sit through all this huffing and puffing with the invention of television, the phone, cinema, radio, the car, the bicycle, printing, the wheel and so on, but you would think we would learn the way these things work, which is this:
1) everything that’s already in the world when you’re born is just normal;
2) anything that gets invented between then and before you turn thirty is incredibly exciting and creative and with any luck you can make a career out of it;
3) anything that gets invented after you’re thirty is against the natural order of things and the beginning of the end of civilisation as we know it until it’s been around for about ten years when it gradually turns out to be alright really.
Apply this list to movies, rock music, word processors and mobile phones to work out how old you are.
If you tell me that there is no reason whatsover that the Doctor would ever want to get Gallifrey or the Time Lords back, I will rip a whole through time and space and punch you in the face
Now I’m not saying that the Time Lords were all perfect, they really did some horrible stuff (The End of Time et al.) and if they’re actually saved by the Doctor, they’ll have to change a lot if they want to avoid being anihilated again.
However, during all the RDT era, the Doctor clearly expressed guilt over what he’d done, nostalgia, deep sadness over the fact that he was the last of the Time Lords (- so please don’t tell me that Moffat invented it all.). He clearly missed his planet (just look at him in Gridlock when he’s talking about it to Martha) and his kin. I acknowledge that in all Classic Who, the Doctor was shunning the Time Lords because they’d done pretty nasty things to him.
But home is not about the douchebags that made your life hell. Home is about your family, your friends, the place you grew up and played and learnt, the moments of joy shared with the people you love, all those memories that are seared into your heart(s) forever and that make you smile when you remember them.
What I believe is that the Doctor isn’t looking for Gallifrey to revive the specific Time Lords who ruined his life. He’s looking for Gallifrey because to him, it’s home.
i love hugging people who are about a head taller than me because then i can snuggle my face into their neck and it is a very cozy place 1000/10 would recommend
I love hugging people who are shorter than me because i can put my chin and cheek on top of their head and just protect them and just let them relax for a few seconds
you made this post so much better thank you
"how will i explain gay couples to my children”
if you can explain to your children that an immortal man in a red suit who lives in the north pole travels around the entire world on one night every year on a sleigh carried by magical flying deer i think itll be easy enough to tell them two people are in love
